NASCAR is racing at Daytona International Speedway this weekend with tonight’s Xfinity Series Coca-Cola Firecracker 250 at 7:30 p.m. (NBCSN, MRN, Sirius/XM 90) and Saturday’s Coke Zero Sugar 400 at 7 p.m. (NBC, MRN, Sirius/XM 90). This kind of restrictor plate racing can produce random winners and till different names to the front of the pack. With only six different winners in Cup this season, many drivers circle this race as a ticket into the Playoffs.

Unadilla, Georgia’s David Ragan nearly won this race in 2017 and scored his first-career MENCS win in the 2011 Daytona summer classic. His only other Cup win was at the restrictor-plated Talladega Superspeedway in 2013 for his current Front Row Motorsports Organization. Ragan is driving the No. 38 Shriners Hospital for Children Ford this weekend.

In a one-on-one interview with WSB, Ragan recalls that breakthrough win and how restrictor plate racing has changed over his 12-year career. He also talks about the NASCAR rulebook , the costs of being in the sport for a small team, and his role on TV.

Erik Jones, meanwhile, is in middle of his sophomore season in Cup. The 2015 Camping World Truck Series champ has one top 10 finish in three Daytona MENCS starts – 9th in this race a year ago. The Byron, Michigan driver is more consistent in his No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota than he was a year ago, but he is still winless and has only one top 5 finish this season.

Jones will drive the buyatoyota.com Toyota in Saturday’s race and tells WSB about how his team is turning things around, if he has speed this weekend, what his social media habits are, how to attract younger fans to NASCAR, and who the drivers are with whom he spends time.
